Slow cooker hot chocolate is the delicious icy weather treat we all need

Add for seasonal sprinkles for an extra festive touch.

Trine Jensen-Burke

Well, this is so going to be our go-to this winter season.

If you have a slow cooker sitting in your kitchen at home, we have just discovered the most genius way to get more use out of it.

Say hello to slow cooker hot chocolate – and trust us; you are never going to look back. And if you have ever made hot chocolate the regular way, on the stovetop, you probably know just how easy it is to scald the milk, making it pretty much undrinkable.

Well, guess what? That won’t happen with this recipe.

Slow Cooker Malted Hot Chocolate

Yield 4-6 servings

Ingredients

  • ⅔ cup unsweetened cocoa
  • ⅔ cup hot water
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • Pinch of salt
  • 1 cup malted milk powder
  • 2 teaspoons vanilla
  • 4 cups whole milk

Instructions

  1. In a 4-quart slow cooker, mix the cocoa and hot water together and stir until smooth. This will prevent the cooa from becoming lumpy.
  2. Add the sugar, salt, malted milk powder, vanilla and milk, and stir to combine.
  3. Heat on high for one hour, then turn down to low or warm while serving.
  4. Top with whipped cream or marshmallows and sprinkles for garnish, if desired.
