Stop the lights! You can now get ‘diet’ avocados

We're intrigued.

Denise Curtin

Looks like avo-toast will never be the same again.

Introducing the avocado light. Created by Spanish food company Isla Bonita, these diet avocados claim to ripen quicker, turn brown slower AND contain only 70% of the fat of a normal avocado.

Hmm, since avocados are a fruit and fruit is healthy… we are not really sure why their is a need for a diet version? But regardless, the Spanish Hearth Foundation’s Food Health Programme has certified these new avocados which must mean they are in fact legit.

Avocados are proven to be quite the superfood too, providing nutritious heart-healthy fats, about half your day’s fiber, folate, vitamin A, vitamin C and potassium. Packed full of essential nutrients, avocado benefits include improved heart health, hormone balance, better digestive health and the oils provided by an avocado include oleic acid and linoleic acid and are therefore recommended as part of a balanced diet to prevent high cholesterol.

Although we are perfectly fine with our full fat avocados, these new ‘diet’ breed have been causing quite the stir online with people intrigued to try them. For now however, it will remain only a curiosity as the company is only producing the new low fat fruit for distribution around Spain. You never know though, trends catch on quickly and we could shortly be seeing diet avocados in the local corner shop.
