Stop Everything. There’s A Wine Even More Amazing Than Prosecco In Existence

Trine Jensen-Burke

OK, so we all agree that there are few things in life more fabulously delicious than a glass (or seven) of Prosecco, yes?

I mean, the bubbles, the happy feeling when you see it being poured, it is all just so gloriously festive.

But did you know there is another Italian bubbly that is quite possibly even tastier than Prosecco, and yet still totally under the radar?

Meet Franciacorta – trust us, it won’t take long till you are head over heels.

Like it’s cousin Prosecco, Franciacorta is also an Italian white, but there are differences between the two when it comes to where the grapes are grown, what kind of grapes used and, most importantly, the method used to make the bubbles.

According to experts, Franciacorta uses a more lengthy and classic method, where a second fermentation, which can take up to 18 months, takes place, something that is reflected in the slightly higher price, whilst Prosecco is made in a much quicker way, meaning more bottles can be churned out every year.

In fact, last year alone, a whopping 400 million of Prosecco were made, while the makers of Franciacorta “only” sold 16 million bottles.

Now; who’s due a “book club” meet-up soon?

Where to buy: Well-stocked off-licenses and fine wine shops.
