Study Suggests That Eating Chocolate Could Make You Smarter

HerFamily

We don’t eat chocolate just because it tastes delicious and goes perfectly with a cup of tea or a glass of white wine.

Yes, those are the main reasons but we also eat it because it has lots of benefits. (Well, that’s what we’re claiming anyway!)

The latest study involving chocolate suggests that eating it can make you smarter.

An experiment, the findings of which were published in the ‘Appetite’ journal, found that people who eat chocolate at least once a week could see their memory and abstract thinking improve.

One of the researchers, psychologist Merrill Elias, told The Washington Post: “Our study definitely indicates that the direction is not that cognitive ability affects chocolate consumption, but that chocolate consumption affects cognitive ability.”

The reason for this is unclear however it has been previously suggested that the flavanols contained within chocolate can improve brain function.

Elias stressed that the results do not prove that people should munch on lots of the good stuff every single day but that having a small amount is fine and has certain benefits.

It wasn’t that long ago that it was discovered that chocolate is good for pregnant women. Another study found that it can help with weight loss when consumed in the morning while one expert suggests it as a remedy for sore throats.
