The ultimate kitchen hack: A baking tool that weighs everything for you

Drop does all the work, you take all the credit

Lia Stokes

Baking can be an enjoyable, therapeutic experience, but with kids running around covered in flour and a cupboard containing only half of the necessary ingredients, it can also be a bit of a nightmare for the unprepared. Step forward Drop, the latest in baking technology and the ultimate kitchen hack.

Founded in Dublin, the Bluetooth scales and iPad app combo will have you whipping up treats worthy of Mary Berry in no time.

The idea behind Drop is that you don’t have to measure the ingredients. Simply ‘drop’ them into a mixing bowl and the scale senses how much you’ve added by weight. It also tells you to stop adding and will move you on to the next step so there’s no need to touch the screen with your sticky baking fingers.

The handy app offers everything from recipes to smart scaling, which allows you to reduce or increase the size of your recipe, as well as a timer and a social sharing aspect so you can share recipes or pictures of your creations.

To make life easier still, Drop will be launching a new simple substitutions element to the app, offering alternatives for certain ingredients so you’ll have no more need to frantically search “substitutes for cream of tartar” mid-bake.

This one is definitely going on our wish list.
