These cinnamon french toast bites are quick and simple to make (and eat)

Sive O'Brien

Just as tasty as cinnamon doughnuts but with way fewer calories, these cinnamon french toast bites are quick and simple to make (and eat).

The cinnamon flavour makes them an ideal sweet Halloween treat, whilst the fact that it’s toast means you can indulge in a tasty breakfast this weekend without feeling too guilty.

Ingredients:

4 thick slices of slightly stale white bread

2 large eggs

¼ cup milk

Pinch of salt

¼ cup white sugar

½ tsp cinnamon powder

3 tbsp butter, separated

Maple syrup for dipping

Method:

Cut the crust off the bread, then cut each piece into 9 equal cubes.

Whisk the eggs, milk and salt in a bowl.

Combine sugar and cinnamon in another bowl.

Melt 1½ tbsp of butter in a frying pan over medium high heat.

Toss half the bread cubes in the egg mixture, then shake off the excess egg using your hands.

Place the bread cubes in the pan for a couple of minutes, using a wooden spoon to brown them on all sides.

Transfer the bread cubes from the pan straight into the sugar mixture. Toss to coat, then put onto a plate.

Repeat with remaining bread cubes.

Serve immediately with maple syrup.
