This mulled wine recipe goes perfectly with The Toy Show

Time to get cosy.

Trine Jensen-Burke

Back home in Scandinavia, we are BIG on mulled wine (or glögg as it is known there) in the lead-up to Christmas.

And rightly so. Nothing can make you to feel quite as Christmas-y as when the heady scent of cinnamon, cloves, citrus and warm wine fills the air.

And so if you, like us, are planning on hurrying home tonight to get into your jammies and watch the Toy Show, we suggest you casually pop into the shops on route home and get the ingredients for this. And we guarantee it will absolutely begin to look a lot like Christmas…

Ingredients

(Makes 6 cups. Share, or drink them all yourself. Who are we to judge…)

1 bottle red wine (750ml) merlot (Don’t crack out the expensive reserve, cheap wine does the job fine, the flavors will come from the spices anyway)
1/4 cup brandy
3 cups unsweetened apple cider
1/4 cup honey
4 cinnamon sticks
1 vanilla bean, cut lengthwise
1 tsp cloves
3 star anise
1 cup chopped citrus (lemon, clementines, oranges etc.)

Method

In a large pot on low-medium heat, bring the wine, brandy, apple cider, and honey to a low boil.

Add the cinnamon, vanilla bean, cloves, and star anise. Turn down the temperature to low, and simmer for 30 minutes.

Just before serving add the chopped citrus.

Mulled wine can be left on the stove to heat for many hours.  It can also be stored in the fridge and reheated the next day.

Happy Toy Show, guys!
