What do you have for breakfast? You could change to Weetabix once you hear about these latest findings.

According to a recent study, it has been found that consuming a 16g serving of the popular cereal every day reduces your risk of dying from conditions such as heart disease and cancer.

In other words, it could make you live longer. But it’s not just Weetabix, whole grains in general have been shown to have health benefits.

The Irish Mirror reports that researchers at Harvard conducted an experiment involving more that 780,000 people and found that the cereal led to “a 7% drop in the risk of death from any cause, a 9% drop in death from cardiovascular disease and a 5% drop in from cancer.”

Other sources of whole grain include brown rice, barley, oatmeal, wholegrain pasta and popcorn (that list doesn’t sound too bad if you ask us!).

Prof Qi Sun, Harvard School of Public Health in Boston, explained: “Healthcare providers should unanimously recommend whole grain consumption to help achieve better health and perhaps reduce death.”
