Weekend ‘Clean’ Treats for little (and big) people

Sive O'Brien

Once you’ve tried one of these, there’s no stopping you with all sorts of combinations. They’re so easy to make with kids, so much healthier than shop-bought treats and you get to have a treat, spend some quality time together making them, and best of all, keep the for days on end in a tub in the fridge. You might need to hide them from little hands, though.

You can replace the dark chocolate with Cacao, add fruit zest, ground almonds, Chia seeds, or just experiment with your own tastes and whatever if in your cupboards.

This recipe came from Emma, at pilatesplusdublin.com, who loves to make them with her little girl, “My daughter also thinks licking the spoon is a very important part of making these.”

Ingredients

12 Dates

6 Squares 85% Dark Chocolate (Can Also Use 70%)

100g Desiccated Coconut

80g Chopped Almonds

2 Large Teaspoons Almond Butter

Preparation

  • Add chopped dates, almonds, almond butter, most of coconut and 4 broken squares of chocolate to a blender. Blend to a chunky paste.
  • Make into small balls.
  • Melt 2 other squares of chocolate, roll the balls in melted chocolate.
  • Place on baking paper on a baking tray.
  • Add a sprinkle of coconut to top.
  • You can store them in the fridge.
