People who put their Christmas decor up earlier are happier, science claims
Have we had the Christmas tree up since last week? Maybe...
The Grinch-like members of society may roll their eyes at people who decorate early, but it is scientifically good for you.
Some of my neighbours have started decorating for Christmas and it looks like they have the right idea.
Scientists have confirmed that putting your decorations up early is actually good for your mood.
Speaking to Today, Psychologist Deborah Serani said the nostalgic feeling triggers happy hormones.
“For a lot of us, Christmas is a magical time, it’s a time of innocence, it’s a time of joy,” Serani explained.
She continued, "It does create that neurological shift that can produce happiness."
"I think anything that takes us out of our normal habituation, the normal day in, day out ... signals our senses, and then our senses measure if it's pleasing or not."
"Christmas decorating will spike dopamine, a feel-good hormone," Serani revealed.
Christmas helps us remember that there is still a lot to smile about, even if it is just a couple of twinkly lights or a wreath on a door.
