Simple parenting trick to help heat up paddling pool water with just bin-liners

Melissa Carton

Such a handy trick.

The weather has been absolutely glorious in Ireland the last week so of course we’ve all been pulling out the paddling pools.

Filling them up is a different story though, as unlike pools you might visit that are heated, at home you can only really fill it with cold water.

I know it’s not a huge deal, but it can be very uncomfortable and even a bit shocking for small babies, to jump into very cold water.

I’m not going to lie, last summer I found myself boiling the kettle a few times to mix in some hot water with the freezing cold water from the hose to make it a bit more palatable.

This summer I don’t think I’ll have to go to the bother of doing that or even trying to fill the pool from the hot tap (the immersion will be delighted).

Recently I came across a very clever parenting hack that will help you heat your pool water and all you need are black bin bags.

Yes all you need to do to take your paddling pool water from freezing to Luke warm is stick a couple of black bin bags on top of the water a little while before your children intend to use it.

The black bags will help absorb heat from the sun that will then help to heat the water.

So simple but so effective.

On a side note while doing this trick make sure young children are supervised at all times and that they do not attempt to climb into the pool while the bags are in there as they could become tangled in them.
