Want to actually ‘do it yourself’ when it comes to DIY? The Gaff Goddess is holding a Dublin event to answer all of your questions

Join ‘Gaff Goddess’ Laura de Barra in Dublin on February 6.

Whether you’re a renter or a homeowner, it’s important to know how to look after your abode. From dripping taps to rewiring plugs, there’s a multitude of  little fixes on everyone’s to-do list… And chances are that’s exactly where they’ll stay if you don’t have the skills to tackle them.

Plus, when it comes to home improvements, much as we long to create our own Insta-perfect interiors, we have to admit to knowing a lot more about power suits than power tools.

Thankfully, the answer to our repair and home-care queries comes in the form of the ‘Gaff Goddess’ Laura de Barra. A one-woman resource library for all things DIY, Laura is on a mission to teach every woman how to maintain her own home – and save us time, stress and money in the process.

The Cork woman is a property portfolio developer and illustrator who works in the London rental market. Building on from the home hacks that she shares on her Instagram account, she’s written a guidebook to repair, décor and ‘She-IY’. It’s funny and straight-talking – and perhaps the most useful book you’ll ever buy.

To launch Gaff Goddess, we’ve teamed up with Laura for her first ever live event. On February 6, our Niamh Maher and Laura will be at Dublin’s Smock Alley Theatre to talk about all things related to looking after your home. Laura will share her tips and tricks for home repairs and maintenance, as well as how to run an eco-friendly home.

Of course, having a home that works is about more than just fixing emergencies, and so Laura will also be providing advice on topics like zoning your spaces, clever storage and choosing the right decor (including how to hang a frame without ruining your wall!).

Tickets for the event cost €10, and are available to purchase here. There will be an opportunity to buy a copy of Gaff Goddess on the night, and Laura will also be signing copies of the book.
