It’s super annoying.
We often tweet sporadically. A thought or a story comes into our heads and we’re like, ‘hey, that would be a good tweet‘.
So, we whip out our phones, go onto Twitter and type it out, ready for all the faves and retweets to come flooding in.
Except a few minutes later we check the tweet and there’s a typo. A stupid, damn typo.
You can’t edit on Twitter so do you delete it in the hope that nobody copped it? Do you just forget about it if you delete it or do you type it out again?
OR, do you just live with the embarrassment of the stupid, damn typo.
Whatever you do there is up to you, but we can all agree that it would be much easier if we could just correct our mistakes. We can do it on Instagram and Facebook, so why not Twitter?
Well, there’s a reason for it.
According to the company’s CEO Jack Dorsey, he said that if they did include an edit button, then it would take away from what Twitter is all about.
He compared it to texting:
“Once you send a text, you can’t take it back. So when you send a tweet it goes to the world instantaneously. You can’t take it back.”
However, he recently appeared on the Joe Rogan podcast and during the *many hours* of the interview, he spoke about hypothetically adding it in.
“You could build it as such so maybe we introduce a 5-second to 30-second delay in the sending and within that window, you can edit. The issue with going longer than that is it takes that real-time nature of the conversational flow out of it.”
I think it’s safe to say we would all be pretty delighted with an edit feature.
