Another Coronation Street character is set for dramatic return in the new year

The holiday season is meant to be many things.

A time of celebration; a time for family and just general good will towards others.

That is, unless you’re a character in soapland.

Then the holiday season is actually full of mayhem, mystery and murder.

And it sounds like the Weatherfield residents are really in for it this year, with a fan favourite set to be fighting for life after a hit-and-run and another character set to be killed in an ‘intense’ twist.

And it looks like Coronation Street has another surprise in store for the New Year, as Jude Appleton is set to make an explosive return.

Jude left Weatherfield in October, after he attacked his mum and was discovered to be a pathological liar who was attempting to con Roy out of thousands of pounds.

Since then, Mary has been desperate to track down her son, – even hiring a PI in an effort to get to the bottom of his disappearance.

According to The Sun, when her private detective tells her that Jude was last seen at a B&B in Blackpool, she and Roy make the trip and manage to track him down.

Needless to say, things don’t go too well – and Jude’s already up to his old tricks again.

When they find him, Mary asks her son to come home with her. However, he says that he can’t as he owes the B&B owner more than £500.

As his mum heads off to find a cashpoint, Jude – who has been claiming to be a surgeon – tells his new girlfriend, Kelly, that Mary is actually one of his former patients.

Roy realises that Jude hasn’t changed at all when he hears Kelly refer to him as Dr. Ken Barlow. And despite Kelly blowing Jude’s cover, Mary is still willing to give her son the benefit of the doubt.

She gives him the money – £800 – and tells him she’ll be waiting for him in the car.

Could Mary be set for even more heartbreak this holiday season?
