Corrie’s Rovers Return is getting a new name and people aren’t happy about it

We don't know how we feel about this.

We don’t know how we feel about this.

A new Coronation Street storyline is to cause a lot of debate on the cobbles as the new Rovers Return landlord decides to rebrand.

Yes, new owner, Johnny Connor, has fresh ideas about Weatherfield’s local and how he can take the pub in a “new direction”.

That includes a new name and while it might not be all that dissimilar to the one we know and love, we don’t think it’s a good idea.

“Johnny decides that the pub needs a good lick of paint and a rebrand,” a source on the soap said.

“Everyone is horrified when they hear he’s going to call it The Roverz and tries to convince him to leave it as it is.”

Yep, Johnny wants to change the name from Rovers Return Inn to The Roverz with a ‘Z’ and we’re not OK with it. Not only that, but he wants to put it in a neon sign.

And that’s not the only change Johnny is planning to make.

The incoming landlord wants to get rid of the pub’s staple grub, hotpots, and replace it with gastropub food.

Betty would NOT be best pleased.

Weatherfield’s residents don’t take to the news well and we’d imagine Johnny is going to have a battle on his hands getting this one over the line.
