Time to organise a festive family trip.

Aside from the fact that Galway is Europe’s Capital of Culture for 2020, there’s another reason to visit the City of the Tribes because the much-loved Christmas market is returning for the festive season.

It’s only October but as parents know, Santa lists start way ahead of time as do festive trip ideas (considering the fact that many of them sell out in record time).

However, we have the next one sorted and both kids and adults alike will love it.

Galway Tourism has confirmed that the festive market will be running from Friday, 15 November to Sunday, 22 December.

Last year, the Galway Continental Christmas Market received over 650,000 visitors and there were more than 50 wooden chalets located in the heart of Eyre Square.

The 2019 Christmas Market is the tenth year of the market and visitors can expect to enjoy a variety of entertainment, food, and stalls.

To make things even better, this year will feature amusement rides which includes a 32-metre high Big Wheel and a traditional carousel.

Aside from this, there’s going to be an Après Ski Bar, Santa’s Express Train, live music performers, puppet shows, storytelling, school choirs, and carol singing.

The kids will go crazy for Santa’s Grotto, run by local charities, and it’s sure to be a heartwarming experience for the whole family.

Food lovers can enjoy bratwurst, French pastries, pretzels, confectionery, crêpes, waffles, and loads of sweets.

For those that enjoy their beer, you can buy a stein at the German Bierkeller which also offers a range of traditional German beers, apple cider and mulled wine.

The market will also feature artisan food products and Christmas gift ideas from both local and European traders.

Keep your eye on the Galway Market’s official Facebook page for more details in the coming weeks.
