The surprising reason why Prince William won’t be godfather to Harry and Meghan’s baby

Cathy Donohue

Apparently, Prince William won’t be godfather to the new royal baby.

If you keep up to date with the royal family and their day to day lives, you might be aware that Meghan Markle and Prince Harry are expecting their first child in spring of this year.

Fairly common knowledge at this point.

Often, new parents will decide to ask their siblings to take on the role of godparent for their new babas but not so with the royal family.

For some strange reason, they never ask brothers or sisters to take on the duty and it’s thought to be because they have a role in the child’s life already.

Okay so.

Robert Jobson says this isn’t a snub though and not something to take offence about, according to USA Today.

Robert is a longtime royal correspondent for several publications and when Prince George was born, he explained that as aunts and uncles, they are already involved in the lives of their nieces and nephews.

As this was the decision made when George was born, people are expecting it to be the same when Meghan and Harry’s baby arrives but there’s no rule to say it won’t change.

Zara Tindall, Harry and William’s cousin, is one of Princess Charlotte’s godparents so sometimes, family members make the cut.

It is tradition to have more than one set of godparents too so it will be interesting to see who is on the list when the little one arrives.

Although Kensington Palace has said the baby is due in spring 2019, people have been trying to work out her exact due date and you can read more on that here.

The Duchess of Sussex attended her first royal engagement of the year yesterday and she was absolutely glowing as you’ll see from the latest snaps.
