Here’s who’s tipped to take Sinéad Desmond’s role on Ireland AM

Sinéad left last month after 11 years.

We reckon she’d be ideal.

Amidst the upheaval on one of Ireland’s most popular daytime TV shows, a Newstalk presenter is being tipped for a prominent gig.

It’s thought that Sarah McInerney is being eyed up for a presenting role on Ireland AM.

The broadcaster is being linked with the job which Sinéad Desmond recently left vacant.

Sarah revealed this week that she would be leaving Newstalk at the end of the year. She also currently hosts The Sunday Show on TV3.

She would be an “ideal candidate” to join the Ireland AM, a source told the Independent.

“Sarah has a proven track record in broadcasting and is equally capable on TV as radio.

“She would be a huge addition to the Ireland AM team and already works for TV3, so it wouldn’t be a huge shift for her.”

It was confirmed this week that Sinéad Desmond had left TV3 in October after 11 years at the helm of the breakfast show, reportedly over a gender pay gap-related dispute.

It’s thought that she was on a different, less favourable contract, than her colleagues, including Mark Cagney and Alan Hughes.

“Sinéad Desmond has decided to leave Ireland AM after 11 years working on the show,” the station said in a statement.

“We would like to thank Sinéad and wish her well for the future.”
