The reason why you never see Kate Middleton and Prince William hold hands in public

Cathy Donohue

Kate Middleton and Prince William never hold hands in public and it turns out that there is a specific reason why.

If you keep up to date with the royal family, you’ll know that Meghan Markle and Prince Harry aren’t shy when it comes to demonstrating their love for each other but in stark contrast, Prince William and Kate Middleton never engage in PDAs.

During public appearances, the Duke and Duchess of Sussex are almost always pictured holding hands but you’ll never see this with Kate and Will.

Harry even held Meghan’s hand with both of his at one point, yes really, and it’s this major difference between the two couples that caused royal fans to wonder if there’s some sort of reasoning behind it.

It seems that this might actually be the case.

According to Marie Claire, the Queen might have an influence on Kate and William’s decision to steer away from PDAs.

The Queen and Prince Phillip have rarely been pictured holding hands throughout their 70 years and could this have had an influence on the Cambridges?

Body language expert, Myka Meier, the founder of Beaumont Ettiquette, previously discussed the subject in detail with People magazine.

Myka acknowledged that while holding hands is a departure from the norm for royal couples, it isn’t against royal protocol and there’s no rule to say that they can’t do so.

She also said that Harry and Meghan’s approach is “modern” and makes them relatable to their many fans.

“Meghan and Prince Harry holding hands at a royal engagement is a refreshingly modern approach to their new role both as a couple and as representatives of the royal family”.
