Looks like the Christmas lights are already going up in Dublin…two months early

Keeley Ryan

There are 15 days until Hallowe’en and 70 to go until Christmas Day.

But it looks like Dublin is already getting into the holiday spirit, with the first of the festive lighting displays already being spotted.

The lights on Clarendon Street have already been strung up, with stars and snowflakes in the seasonal display.

And it looks like there’s plenty of other displays starting to be set up nearby, with one social media user spotting a similarly Christmas-sy set-up on Suffolk Street.

It’s not the first time that the lights have been put up early, though – and it turns out the reason for the early start makes a lot of sense.

A spokesperson for Dublin at Christmas explained last year that the early start on the holiday displays was down to the fact that there were so many lights – and, of course, they needed to be tested.

More than 1,000,000 lightbulbs and fixtures were set up across 30 streets across 4.5km of Dublin’s city centre last year – and  it’s most likely going to be a similar display for the holiday season this year.

As for when the lights are going to be turned on? There’s been no official word just yet. But going off previous years, the Christmas lights around Dublin are likely to be switched on mid-next month.
