Mum ‘appalled’ after being sworn at in nursery for offering parenting advice

What do you think?

A mum has told she was left stunned when she tried to offer support to another parent when her little girl got upset at nursery.

The”appalled” woman took to Mumsnet to open up about the experience and find out if others also found it shocking.

She began the post by explaining how her four year old daughter has breakfast at nursery and has settled into their routine with “no drama”.

But that didn’t turn out to be the case for all the kids there, with one little girl in particular having a tough time and getting very upset.

The Mumsnet user tried to offer the other mum some words of support after seeing the toddler crying.

She continued in the post:

“So, when I was walking out of the room with said mum, I looked at her and said ‘It’s just a phase, it will get better’.

“I just tried to be comforting, didn’t gave her any tips or spoke about my routine that works so well. I swear.

“Just said what I wrote.

“And then I hear her saying ‘F*** off’.”

The woman, who is not originally from the UK, said she first wondered if she had heard the other mum wrong – but quickly realised that hadn’t been the case.

The post continued:

“Then she looks at me and says ‘Who gave you the right to talk about my child?'”

The original poster said that she was “appalled” by the woman’s actions, but wanted to know what others thought.

And while some people agreed that the woman was out of ine to swear at her. others disagreed.

Someone wrote:

“Trying to contend with a child having a full on meltdown and having people walk past and comment is bloody annoying.

“She was rude but I understand why.”

Another forum user said:

“Maybe she found it patronising? Maybe she felt like you thought she was stupid and needed telling something she already knew?

“I must admit I’d find a comment like that annoying, though I wouldn’t swear at you. I’d just smile and nod.”

Others felt that while the woman was rude, the original poster should probably not have offered advice as she wasn’t totally sure of the situation with the mum or her crying daughter.
