Phelan’s rumoured exit from Coronation Street isn’t what we expected

Keeley Ryan

It seems like it’s been forever since Pat Phelan first arrived on Coronation Street.

Since he set foot on the cobbles, he’s kidnapped, lied and betrayed…well, just about everyone he has come into contact with.

After he murdered Luke Britton and framed Anna Windass for pushing Seb off a ladder, many fans began to wonder if he would ever see justice.

And while Corrie’s producer Kate Oates recently revealed that Phelan’s exit is coming (and not for the faint of heart), we didn’t exactly know how he was going to meet his maker.

According to The SunPhelan’s days in Weatherfield appear to be numbered after he goes on vacation with his wife, Eileen.

The pair are off to a cottage break on the coast when the bodies of some of his victims are found back in a building site in Weatherfield.

Phelan and Eileen end up getting into an argument while they’re out walking one day.

And when he goes to lunge at her, she sidesteps – before shoving him into the sea.

A source told the publication:

“The whole show has been building up to this point for some time. Phelan’s murderous ways will finally be revealed while he and Eileen are on a mini-break.

“But while they’re there the police find the bodies at his building site and Liz tells Eileen about everything.

“When they start to clash while out walking Phelan tries to go for her and she sidesteps him and throws him into the sea.

“It will stun and delight viewers. He’s finally getting his comeuppance.”

Phelan will be presumed dead after the incident, but poor Eileen’s problems won’t end there.

As his crimes slowly get revealed, many of the Weatherfield residents begin to question if she knew what he was up to all along.

But fans will be waiting awhile to see Phelan’s time on the cobbles come to an end.

Mikey North, who plays Gary on the long-running soap, recently revealed that the storyline will continue on for months.

He said on Wednesday’s This Morning:

“I think Gary and Nicola have concocted a plan to infiltrate Phelan’s life. Gary’s got a job now working on the mill with Phelan.

“Now I’m going to find out what he’s hiding down there. that’s going to run for a couple of months.

“All I can say on the matter is the viewing figures are higher than they have been for the last couple of years. People might be switching off but they’re also switching on.

“People are talking about it and that’s what Corrie wants.”
