Here’s why Prince Harry and Meghan Markle will be spending Christmas morning apart

And here's why...

If you thought Meghan and Harry would be having a fry in their pyjamas on Christmas morning, you thought wrong.

Turns out, the Duke and Duchess of Sussex won’t even be spending the morning together. Although the pair are traveling to Sandringham with the rest of the royal family to celebrate the festivities, the pair won’t be seeing eachother until they prepare for the church service at 11am.

And it’s all because of an age-old tradition whereby the men eat breakfast downstairs together while the women eat in their rooms.

According to the Queen’s former chef, Darren McGrady, he spoke to the Mail On Sunday revealing all.

“On Christmas Day, the ladies generally opt for a light breakfast of sliced fruit, half a grapefruit, toast and coffee delivered to their rooms.”

And while the women eat upstairs, the men have a fry downstairs.

“Male royals, meanwhile, come downstairs to the dining room for a hearty breakfast at 8:30am with eggs, bacon and mushrooms, kippers and grilled kidneys, to set them up for the 11am church service at St Mary Magdalene.”

The tradition is one which the royals still adhere to. Married women stay in their rooms for breakfast while the men go downstairs however, single royal women don’t eat breakfast in their rooms as they “have to be seen as ‘sociable’ whereas the ladies who were married didn’t have to come down and socialise” former royal butler, Grant Harrold revealed.

And since this is Meghan Markle’s first Christmas as a married woman, we’re interested to see how she adapts to this trend. Will more royal protocol get broken this year in the hopes to create new traditions?
