#PumpkinButt is the Instagram baby trend that needs no explaining

It's that time of year!

Cute or just plain weird?

In the world of Instagram, two things are a given – one, parents LOVE to dress their kids up in accordance with the seasons and two, sometimes they can go a little overboard.

Case in point: pumpkin butt. Or rather, #pumpkinbutt.

We don’t really know why, but the trend is all over Instagram right now.

It’s pretty self-explanatory; in celebration of Halloween, parents paint pumpkins on their babies’ bums and take photos of them.

We don’t know who started the craze but it’s going strong in the run-up to the big day – over 19,000 images with the hashtag have been shared so far.

One blogger, mum Victoria Moore of My Momtastic Life blog, said she first got the idea from Pinterest.

“I decided to do it simply because I think it is too stinkin’ adorable!” she told AllTheMoms.

“I know some moms don’t like it, but I just see it as harmless and cute.

“I also look forward to embarrassing him later in life when he has girlfriends. (Just kidding, I’ll be nice).”

It’s not for everyone though. Mum blogger Gina Fenton wrote a post saying she was concerned about the photos being online forever.

“Babies are not chalk boards or blank canvases, for God’s sake,” she wrote.

“Worse yet is posting these humiliating photos on the Internet for everyone and their brother to copy, paste and pin to Pinterest where the copy-paste-post cycle will repeat for all of eternity.”
