Richard E Grant overcome with emotion following his 'message in a bottle miracle'

He shared his tearful reaction on Twitter.

Barbra Streisand has responded to Richard E Grant’s childhood letter he sent almost half a century ago, proving anything is possible.

Aged 14, Richard wrote to his hero, proposing a very generous offer – “a two-week holiday, or longer” at his home in Africa.

In the sweet letter he wrote:

“I read in the paper that you were feeling very tired and pressurized by your fame and failed romance with Mr Ryan O’Neal. I would like to offer you a two week holiday, or longer, at our house, which is very beautiful with a pool and a magnificent view of the Ezulwini Valley.

He continued:

“No one will trouble you and I assure you you will not be mobbed in the street as your films only show in our one cinema for three days, so not that many people will know who you are, so no chance of being mobbed. Please consider this respite seriously. You will always be welcome.”

Most likely inundated with fan mail, Barbra never got the letter but after posting a selfie outside her house along with a picture of the letter he sent, The Way We Were singer finally responded.

She answered the 61-year-old’s tweet saying:

“Dear Richard What a wonderful letter you wrote me when u were 14! and look at u now! You’re terrific in your latest movie with Melissa congratulations and love Barbra”

The Downton Abbey actor was clearly overcome with emotion at Barbra’s words.

He tweeted a tearful picture, overjoyed with his “message in a bottle miracle”.
