The stars of Father of the Bride have reunited and we’re a bit emotional

Alison Bough

Prepare to feel old. Very old.

Would you believe me if I told you that it’s been 26 years since Father of the Bride came out in cinemas? It’s true, unfortunately.

For many of us ladies of a certain vintage, this daddy-daughter wedding movie holds a special place in our heart. The lovable George Banks’ reluctance to give his beloved daughter ‘away’ to another man was one of the most heartwarming movie moments of the 90’s. Don’t even get me started on the bit when George misses Annie throwing her bouquet; I’m still not over it to be honest.

Fans will be delighted to see some of the stars back together again (yay!) but sadly, not for a third movie (boo!). Steve Martin, Martin Short, and Kimberly Williams-Paisley, recently reunited backstage at Nashville’s Grand Ole Opry.

Kimberly, who starred as the stunning 22-year-old bride Annie Banks, posted a photo of herself alongside her former costars to her Instagram account, and 90s girls everywhere rejoiced and sighed fondly.

Nawww, they haven’t changed a bit since they played that very last game of daddy-daughter basketball outside the family home. Sniff.

Steve and Martin were both at the world-famous Grand Ole Opry to perform with bluegrass band Steep Canyon Rangers, according to Today.com. Kimberly, who is married to country musician Brad Paisley, was there to support her old friends.

Although Steve has ruled out starring in a third Father of the Bride movie, he predicts that we haven’t seen the last of George Banks just yet. He told Entertainment Tonight that he thinks the movie will be remade at some point,

“I don’t think that’s gonna happen. I’d have to play a grandfather. Do I want to do that? Yeah, of course I do, but I think we’ve seen enough.

But, you know, I think another generation will make that movie again.”

It just wouldn’t be the same without you Steve and Kimberly!
