What time would you rather start work at in the morning?

Would you rather get up earlier or later for work?

It’s something many of us battle with – we love a lie in, but rather be out the office door earlier in the day.

Well, a survey has found that the majority of Irish workers rather begin work early rather than late.

According to the new survey, which was carried out by McDonald’s Ireland, 31 percent of respondents said that they rather start at 8am and finish at 4pm, with 17 percent wanting to start at 7am and finish at 3pm.

Only 23 percent would prefer staying on the average 9-5 hours.

Meanwhile, if given the option, 32 percent of workers would go for longer hours, but a shorter working week.

The top priorities for employees range from a friendly and sociable work environment (55 percent), flexibility (52 percent), location (49 percent) and opportunities for progression (51 percent).

Of those who are currently working with flexible hours, 82 percent feel that flexible working makes them more positive towards their job, while 79 percent say it will result in them staying with their current employer for longer.

Speaking of the findings, Paul Pomroy, CEO of McDonald’s UK & Ireland said:

“People are looking for jobs that work for them. This research reflects our belief that to attract, retain and motivate, employers need to create opportunities that genuinely work for people whatever their age, life stage, or ambition.

“The business case is clear, as are the links to improved happiness and wellbeing – people simply don’t want to work 9-5 anymore. They want to work more flexibly, but that doesn’t diminish ambition, desire or opportunity to progress.”
