The Dora The Explorer live action trailer is here and it actually doesn’t look too bad

Wil Jones

From the director of Da Ali G Show.

Dora The Explorer is an incredibly successful animated show that ran on Nick Jr between 2000 and 2014. It focused on the titular globetrotting seven-year-old and her pet monkey Boots, and had a strong educational bent teaching kids about the world, as well as fourth-wall breaking challenges that Dora would need the audience’s ‘help’ to solve.

Your kids were probably obsessed with it, which in turn, meant you were obsessed with it.

Dora The Explorer went on to become Nick Jr’s longest running show, running eight series and becoming a merchandising juggernaut.

A live action movie version of Dora – entitled Dora and The Lost City of Gold – was announced in 2017, for which the trailer has just dropped. And it actually looks surprisingly epic – like Tomb Raider meets Spy Kids or something.

Dora The Explorer was also notable for bringing a Latina hero to kids TV, and the film’s cast includes some big name Latin-American talent, including Michael Pena, Danny Trejo, Eva Longoria and Benicio Del Toro.

It is helmed by British director James Bobin – who has somehow gone from Da Ali G Show to this, via Flight of the Conchords and The Muppets.

The official synopsis reads:

Having spent most of her life exploring the jungle with her parents, nothing could prepare Dora (Isabela Moner) for her most dangerous adventure ever – High School. Always the explorer, Dora quickly finds herself leading Boots (her best friend, a monkey), Diego (Jeffrey Wahlberg), a mysterious jungle inhabitant (Eugenio Derbez), and a rag tag group of teens on a live-action adventure to save her parents (Eva Longoria, Michael Peña) and solve the impossible mystery behind a lost city of gold.

The film is due in cinemas August 2nd.
