This washing machine cleans clothes AND burns calories

It's exactly what it sounds like.

Ever wish you could combine your workout with those pesky household chores?

Well, this gadget could allow you to do just that… while saving the environment to boot.

The Drumi is a foot-powered washing machine that does not require any electricity whatsoever.

An eco-friendly way to reduce the use of standard-size washing machines, it can hold up to five pounds (2.25 kg) of clothing, or between approximately five and seven t-shirts or smaller items.

It can also be used to clean pet clothes, baby clothes, and cloth nappies and takes between five and ten minutes for a load: approximately three minutes for a wash, two minutes for a rinse and one minute for a spin.

Is it big enough for a family wash? Eh no, not really, unless you’re up for a Jane Fonda level of pumping that pedal, but it could be handy for smaller cycles and off-grid camping trips.

Each load requires approximately 10 liters of water – an impressive 80 per cent less than most washing machines.

The Drumi is available to order now for delivery in early 2017.

Here’s what it looks like in action…
