Three new weather warnings have been issued as Storm Callum nears Ireland

Met Éireann have issued three new weather warnings as Storm Callum nears Ireland.

The warnings – which include two status orange warnings for 13 counties – come after forecasters had warned of “wet and very windy, possibly stormy, weather” this weekend

The first status orange wind warning is for Donegal, Galway, Mayo, Sligo, Clare and Kerry.

The caution is due to come into effect on Thursday, October 11 at 10pm and will remain in place until noon on Friday.

The second, another status orange wind warning, comes into effect at 10pm on Thursday and will last until 9am on Friday. It will cover Dublin, Louth, Wexford, Wicklow, Meath, Cork and Waterford.

On the warnings, one of the Met Éireann forecasters said:

“Strong winds associated with Storm Callum, coinciding with high spring tides will affect Ireland on Thursday night and Friday morning.

“Winds will be strongest overnight and early on Friday, gusting between 110 and 130 km/h at coasts.”

The third warning, a yellow wind warning, covers Carlow, Kildare, Kilkenny, Laois, Longford, Offaly, Westmeath, Cavan, Monaghan, Leitrim, Roscommon, Limerick and Tipperary.

It will come into effect on Thursday, October 11 at 11pm and last until 9am the following morning.

A forecaster said:

“Strong winds associated with Storm Callum, coinciding with high spring tides will affect Ireland on Thursday night and Friday morning.

“Winds will be strongest overnight and early on Friday, gusting between 90 and 110 km/h at coasts.”
