We sure do love telly.
And it appears as though a few shows, in particular, tickle our fancy when it comes to Christmas Day viewing. According to stats from RTÉ, the most watched programme on the service over Christmas was one which aired on December 25th.
Bringing in ratings of an average 612,000 viewers, Mrs Brown’s Boys Christmas special “Exotic Mammy” topped the charts with a 41 percent audience share on Christmas Day.
The hit programme was then followed by a programme which aired straight after it – The Young Offenders, which hit ratings of 480,000 and with over 18,000 streams since it aired on Christmas night.
Fair City also hit high figures with their programme on Christmas Day and St Stephen’s Day drawing in 740,000 viewers combined.
And when it comes to movies, there was one clear winner. The most watched movie on RTÉ over Christmas was Home Alone which aired on Christmas Day and featured a predominant audience of 15-34-year-olds.
Lastly, other noted figures included that of Bridget and Eamon’s Christmas special which had 196,000 viewers. The Father Ted Christmas special which had 232,000 viewers and lastly, Podge and Rodge which had 136,000 viewers.
Tonight sees the flick Ben-Hur on RTÉ2 at 9:30pm as well as Eddie The Eagle on Channel 4 at 8pm. Two great movies if you plan on staying in.
