Corrie set robbed while cast film robbery scene

You couldn’t make it up, like.

If there’s two things in this world that simply don’t mix, it’s an organised robbery and Corrie‘s Steve McDonald .

The man is so bumbling, so unassuming, so non-threatening that he’d rock up somewhere with the intention of fleecing the place and end up having his iPhone nicked.

It is just his way.

It kind of makes sense then that while the actor who plays Steve, Simon Gregson, was off filming a robbery scene on-location in Bolton, a few real life robbers saw their chance and hit the ITV set for a bit of thievery of their own.

According to Press Association, the set was visited by the armed robbers at about 11.30am on Thursday in a successful attempt to steal a generator.

“We can confirm a small domestic generator was stolen during a low-level opportunistic theft from the unit base of filming today [Friday] for Coronation Street whilst the crew were on location in Bolton,” an ITV spokesperson said.

“The programme’s cast and crew weren’t at the unit base at the time. The incident was reported to the police and filming wasn’t affected.”

The filming in question involves Steve unwillingly becoming a getaway driver for a balaclava clad lad who jumps in his taxi.

Steve is then coerced into helping the man rob a garage while he speeds him away in his cab to safety.

He will later be questioned by police for his involvement in the crime.
