A former Coronation Street director accused of grooming a 13-year-old girl is to appear in court.

Tim Dowd was arrested at his home in Keswick, West Yorkshire in February on suspicion of enticing a child into sexual activity online.

The ‘child’ in question was an undercover police officer, which prompted the 65-year-old’s arrest.

The Sun reports that Dowd will appear in court next month facing four charges of inciting a child into sexual activity.

Dowd had directed almost 200 episodes of Coronation Street and has worked in television for over three decades.

He has credits for other ITV shows including Heartbeat and Emmerdale and was due to renew his Coronation Street contract earlier this year.

Prior to his arrest, he was credited on recent episodes of Corrie before being let go from his role by producers. He had been with the show for 24 years.

Producers confirmed that he no longer worked for the soap but refused to comment on his arrest.

This comes after Corrie actor, Bruno Langley, was fired from the show after admitting to sexually assaulting two women on a night out.

He played Todd Grimshaw in the soap.
