And here's why...

Did you spot this one going?

Netflix has quietly pulled documentary Root Cause from its streaming service after criticism from oral professionals who have described it as “misleading” and “not supported by scientific evidence”.

According to the documentary, it claims that root canals cause cancer, heart disease, and other serious chronic illness and so, the best way to remove an infected tooth is to pull it.

These claims have been met with serious backlash and so, Netflix has decided to remove the documentary from its service completely.

Root Cause was removed from Netflix on February 23, 2019.

The programme wasn’t live for long when it was met by opposition from leading American dental bodies like the American Association of Endodontists (AAE) and the American Association of Dental Research (AADR).

These bodies sent letters to the platform asking it to remove the documentary because the information was misleading and harmful to the viewing public.

And so on February 23, Netflix dropped the documentary.

Speaking to The Guardian about Netflix’s decision to drop the documentary, the director of endodontics at the Harvard School of Dental Medicine said it was a “wise and responsible decision”.

Netflix has not yet commented on the decision to remove Root Cause.
