The Queen has always insisted on this one rule, and Princess Diana HATED it

Rebecca O'Keeffe

Could you blame her?

So we know that when you’re a member of the royal family, there are rules.

Particularly if you are a woman, the rules just seem to be more strict.

You can’t wear certain things (although Meghan is testing those waters), you can’t take selfies and you can’t even eat garlic.

There’s another age-old royal rule that they all must follow.

When the family are together, nobody is allowed to go to bed before the Queen.

Sure, that’s probably not a massive issue now, considering her age, but it was 20 years ago.

And apparently, the late Princess Diana absolutely hated this rule.

Speaking in an interview, one of the Queen’s former private secretaries, Sir William Heseltine, talked about how Diana disliked the rule.

“For Diana the long royal evenings were agony.”

“There’d be an hour or so in the sitting room of everyone sitting around making conversation, and nobody felt it right to go to bed before the Queen did.”

“And Diana was driven to such extremes that she’d excuse herself and go to bed, which was thought to be rather bad form, going to bed before the Queen.”

Would you agree?
