Princess Charlotte might inherit an extremely special royal title

Rebecca O'Keeffe

Pretty important for little Char.

Will my obsession with royalty ever cease? Not bloody likely.

Titles are something I find super interesting – particularly that of the Princess Royal.

Currently held by Princess Ann, this title is given to the eldest daughter of the reigning monarch.

Only one person can hold this title at any given time, which is why Queen Elizabeth was never a Princess Royal.

The Queen’s aunt, Princess Mary, held the title of Princess Royal until she passed away in 1965.

Queen Elizabeth gave her eldest daughter, Ann, the title in 1987, when she was 36.

Unlike typical titles, the Princess Royal is not inherited – it is gifted at the discretion of the monarch.

With Princess Charlotte being the eldest daughter of Prince William, it is likely that she will eventually become Princess Royal.

However, in order to receive this title, William will have to be King, and Princess Ann will have passed away.

So, we have a long time to wait, I hope.
