This American retailer now stock costumes for wheelchair using children

This is brilliant!

American retailer Target has just released a line of dress-up costumes for children who use wheelchairs.

Target’s Hyde and Eek! Boutique has unveiled two Halloween costumes adapted for wheelchair users.

Wheelchair covers help to transform your child’s wheelchair into a purple princess carriage or into a pirate ship, complete with a Jolly Roger flag and waves for the wheels.

The popular store will also be stocking special costumes for children with sensory conditions.

Costumes are available from ages four and up.

My cousin Kayleigh has been a wheelchair user her entire life and growing up in the nineties there were far fewer options for her than there were for the rest of us when it came to dressing up or visiting the playground.

Now thanks to new initiative children who require the use of a wheelchair can now enjoy most if not all of the same things that their contemporaries do.

I haven’t come across an Irish company yet that stock these costumes but hopefully they will soon follow Target’s example so that all children can enjoy imaginative play.
