PANIC! Fingerlings are being sold on eBay for 40 times the original price

Dear Santa...

Gillian Fitzpatrick

They’re this year’s most in-demand Christmas gift… as many worried parents will attest.

And now it seems that some mums and dads are going to incredible lengths to source Fingerlings for their kids – paying monstrous amounts to secure the toys in time for Christmas.

The items should cost around €19. However, a glance on eBay reveals that some are being flogged for many times that amount. Indeed, one seller of the rare aqua green monkey version is looking for an eye-watering €760… 40 times the original cost.

Fingerlings comes as monkeys, unicorns, and sloths.

Recently, fake versions of the toy have cropped up online. These items may not have passed the necessary safety standards tests and parents are being warned not to buy them.

Fingerlings are small characters that sit on a child’s finger and carry out a number of actions… Think of them as the smaller, slightly cuter (and cheaper) version of the Furby, a classic kids’ toy craze from Christmases of yore.

“Fingerlings respond to sound, motion and touch and will let you know when they like what you are doing!” claims the product description.

Fingerlings also interact with one another and are collectible, meaning parents aren’t likely to get peace until they’ve bought at least a few for their little ones. Genius.
