Mindfulness technique

Irish schools need to take this on board.

A school in the United States has taken a new approach to detention and they are seeing some amazing results.

The Baltimore school has replaced detention with meditation to help children deal with negative emotions in a positive way.

yoga in schools

Robert. W Coleman elementary school partnered up with the Holistic Life Foundation to implement the Mindful Moment program and it has been a huge success.

The Mindful Moment program teaches children how to deal with emotions like anger and stress by teaching them breathing and exercise techniques.

Children taking part in the program are also taught reflection to help them deal with anxiety.

Many children who are seen as bold and disruptive are often dealing with issues such as stress and anxiety.

Helping children to manage their emotions rather than punishing them has been proven to be more successful in teaching them to be more respectful and kind to others.

Other neighbouring schools to Coleman have begun following its example by running the Mindful Moment in their schools and I honestly think that Irish schools should start doing the same.

Between keeping up with their school work and trying to fit in children can come under immense pressure and a little time out during the day to take in some yoga and meditation might be just what the doctor ordered.
