Storyline Online is offering free teaching tools for families during lockdown

Melissa Carton

This is great.

Keeping the kids on top of their school work at the moment is no easy task.

Things have gone from schools being shut for a couple of weeks to several weeks and I’m sure I’m not the only parent running low on ideas right now.

I’m trying to help my son the best that I can and looking up every resource possible that’s why I was more than delighted to read that Storyline Online is offering free teaching tools for families and caregivers for the duration of lock down.

Online children’s literacy programme, Storyline Online, is a digital library of 57 read aloud books by top Hollywood actors and presenters.

The content produced by the programme hopes to engage young viewers with their animated interpretations of historic, adventurous and fantastical tales that promote imagination and inclusion.

The Storyline Online cast of readers includes Oprah Winfrey, Rami Malek, Viola Davis, Chris Pine, Kristen Bell (yes Anna from Frozen) and more, who have volunteered their time and talent to promote literacy and inspire a love of reading in children from playschool age to sixth class.

From just having a brief look at the books that they have available I can already see some of my children’s favourites including Peter Rabbit and even one of my favourites from when I was little, The Elves and the Shoemaker.

Reading is a great way not only to help our children keep on track with their literacy but also to help take their minds off the current pandemic.

With schools closing and their normal routines turned upside down, our children are bound to feel anxious right now and diving in to a good book can really help with that.

If you fancy trying out some of Storyline Online’s books yourself you can by visiting their website here.
