A video of a child playing at home shows how easily furniture can topple over

Jade Hayden

A video of a toddler playing at home has proven how easily furniture can topple over.

The home CCTV footage of the child playing alone at home near a chest of drawers shows the piece of unsecured furniture topple forward almost crushing the child.

The toddler moves out of the way slightly and narrowly misses being injured by the drawers.

The video has been shared widely on the internet alongside warnings about the dangers of leaving children unsupervised near unsecure furniture.

The Daily Mail reports that in Australia, at least 22 children have died from toppling furniture or televisions since the beginning of the millennium.

In order to secure home furniture safely, it can be anchored to the wall. Instructions on how to do so safely can be found here.

Similarly, heavy objects should always be placed in drawers near the bottom of shelves to minimise their chance of toppling.
