The search is called off.

Gardai have stopped the search for missing woman Elizabeth Redmond after remains were discovered on an island off the coast of Dublin.

Elizabeth had been missing from her home in Artane in Dublin from December 15, with the remains found on Lambay island now confirmed by Gardaí to be her.

The body of the 52 year old was discovered on Thursday last week, with a DNA analysis carried out shortly after.

A garda spokesperson said: “Following the discovery of human remains on Lambay Island on Thursday, 27th January, 2022, being positively identified through DNA analysis, the media appeal in respect of missing person Elizabeth Redmond has been stood down.

“An Garda Síochána would like to thank the media and public for their assistance in this matter. No further media action is required and no further information is available at this time.”

The remains have been removed to the Dublin City Morgue where a post mortem examination is set to be carried out by the State Pathologist to determine a cause of death.

Gardaí had contacted families of missing people in Dublin after making the discovery on Lambay, according to the Sunday World.
