A newborn baby has passed away just weeks after his mother died from a stroke.

According to a report by Lancashire Live, Dexter Khan-Barnes was born at 32 weeks after being delivered by emergency cesarean section when his mother, Laura Barnes, developed the clot. Laura’s mum Jennifer Barnes said her daughter had suffered a stroke months earlier.

Dexter remained in the neo-natal unit but was discharged into the care of his father, Shane Khan. He returned home six weeks after his birth on May 29th, 2022.

The inquest, at Blackburn Old Town Hall, heard the newborn had been seen by a nurse at his father’s house in Rishton, near Accrington, Lancashire, on July 29th and no concerns had been raised.

In the early hours of the following day, Khan found his son unresponsive.

According to reports, he had laid down next to his son at 4 am. He then woke up around an hour and a half later to find the baby’s arms limp and eyes discoloured.

Dexter was pronounced dead later that morning after being rushed to Royal Blackburn Hospital.

Lancashire Live said a post-mortem had failed to determine a cause of death.

Dexter’s grandmother said her daughter had always wanted to be a mum and hoped the pair would now be reunited.

A post-mortem found no evidence of prior illness or injuries that could have contributed to Dexter’s death.
