An amazing moment.
Violet-Anne Wynne has just made history as the first Irish TD to bring her baby into the Dáil for a vote.
The Independent TD arrived at the Dáil chamber with her baby daughter Collins, standing at the back before she took her seat for a series of votes.
The former Sinn Féin TD was told she had made history by Ceann Comhairle Seán Ó Fearghaíl when he interrupted proceedings to make the announcement.
The room broke out in applause and cheers from an almost full chamber, with Ó Fearghaíl then laughing and saying that “Baby Collins is the first actual baby to join us here”.

After the first vote was then passed by 74 to 64 votes on the passage of the Road Traffic and Roads Bill, Wynne was approached and congratulated by Minister for Children Roderic O’Gorman and various other TDs including Independent TD Marc MacSharry, Labour TD Aodhán Ó Ríordáin, and Social Democrats TD Holly Cairns.
During baby Collins’ trip to the Dáil, photos were taken of the baby and her mum as she sat down to vote, with the baby sitting on her lap the entire time giggling.
After sitting in the Dáil, Wynne tweeted: “My sincere thanks to the Ceann Comhairle and to all the TDs who made Collins feel so welcome at last night’s vote!”
