Gardaí investigating alleged sexual assault on young girl

The victim is under the age of 16.

Gardaí in Limerick have launched an investigation into an alleged sexual assault.

It is believed a young girl was sexually assaulted in East Limerick earlier this month.

The young girl was reportedly attacked in a rural location on Saturday, May 7th.

According to reports, she was hanging out with her friends before the incident occurred.

She was attacked later that night.

The victim is under the age of 16, Gardaí stated.

It is believed her attacker is also a minor, but Gardaí have not identified them yet.

No arrests have currently been made, but Gardaí have collected clothing as evidence

Members of the Garda National Protective Services Bureau are also leading the investigation.

Gardaí believe there were youths in the area at the time of the sexual assault.

Anyone who may have witnessed the attack has been urged to contact Gardaí. Those with information about the night of the attack should also help Gardaí with this investigation.

They have asked witnesses to come forward with any relevant information.
