Boy (6) dies in tragic swimming pool accident in Co. Offaly

Gardaí are treating the drowning as a tragic accident.

A young boy has sadly passed away in a drowning accident in Co. Offaly.

The 6-year-old got into difficulty while swimming at the Tullamore Court Hotel’s pool.

Gardaí are investigating the incident, but they are treating the boy’s death as a tragic accident.

A file has been prepared for the Coroner’s Court.

The Health and Safety Authority is also investigating the tragic accident.

The HSA confirmed they are making inquiries.

It is believed he got into difficulty when he was swimming in the pool on Sunday, May 29th.

Emergency services rushed the young boy to hospital, but he was later pronounced dead.

A Garda spokesperson confirmed, “The child was taken to Children’s Health Ireland at Crumlin where they later passed”.

The Tullamore Court Hotel also shared a statement.

The hotel staff extended their thoughts to the boy’s family but urged the public to respect them during this harrowing time.

“The thoughts of all our team are with them. We would ask everyone to please respect their privacy.

“We have no further comment at present.”
