Gardaí launch investigation after body of woman found on Galway shoreline

Efforts to identify the deceased are ongoing.

Gardaí have launched an investigation after the body of a woman was found on the Galway shoreline.

It is believed the woman’s body has been in the water for approximately a week.

A post-mortem will be conducted.

The results will determine the course of the investigation.

The body was found by a person out walking on the morning of Tuesday, September 21st. The walker alerted Gardaí about a body that was washed up at Doorus, near Kinvara.

Galway Fire and Rescue Service from Gort station assisted with the recovery of the body.

The body was taken to the mortuary at University Hospital Galway.

Gardaí stated: “Gardaí at Gort are investigating following the discovery of human remains in Kinvara, Co Galway. The discovery was made at approximately 11.30am this morning by a person walking near the shoreline. The remains understood to be that of a female, have been removed to the mortuary at UCHG.”

“The local Coroner was notified and the Office of the State Pathologist has been requested to conduct a post-mortem examination. Efforts to identify the deceased are ongoing and the outcome of the post-mortem will determine the course of the Garda investigation.”

The investigation is ongoing.
