The grief-stricken husband said their newborn is their hope.

The husband of Laura Liston has thanked the public for their support after his wife’s tragic death.

He said their son, baby Shay, is their hope.

After Laura’s tragic death, home births were paused temporarily in the Mid West.

However, a number have been able to go ahead.

According to the Association for the Improvement of Maternity Services, some home births went ahead.

In a statement on their website, chair of AIMs, Krysia Lynch shared:

“We were pleased to learn from a number of women in the midwest that their home births are going ahead as planned.”

If these women need to be transferred to hospital care then they will be moved to University Maternity Hospital Limerick.

“AIMS Ireland expresses our deepest condolences to the families of the three women whom we understand have died in our maternity services in recent weeks.

“Service users must be assured that our maternity services are safe, as well as fit for purpose.”

AIMS Ireland called for an “independent external review in all cases of maternal death”.

“As well as the public inquests which are now mandatory.”

A review into the death of Laura Liston is currently underway.
