Marty Morrissey speaks out after the harrowing death of his mother

“I lost my beautiful Mom so heartbreakingly”

Marty Morrissey has thanked the public for their support following the death of his mother.

Earlier this month, the broadcaster’s mother tragically died in a single-vehicle collision in Co. Clare.

Ahead of his first Christmas without his mum, he praised the public for comforting him through his grief.

He said, “The last few weeks have been the most difficult in my life as I lost my beautiful Mom so heartbreakingly.”

“But my grief has been comforted by your wonderful love and support,” he wrote.

“It’s a particularly hard time for a lot of people especially this year more than most.”

He added, “Life is precious. On this Christmas Eve night, can I thank you from the bottom of my heart for your prayers, cards, phone calls, and texts. May I wish you and your family a very Happy Christmas and much love.”

Speaking about the special bond he shared with his mother, the sports reporter said they were a “dynamic duo”.

“We were a great team, the most formidable mother and son team in the world,” he said at her funeral.

“I love my mother with all my heart, I spent all my life with her and she gave me everything, total unconditional love,” Morrissey added.

“I’ve got to let you go now mam, go to dad and tell him I love him too.

“You lived life to the full, there is no doubt Peggy Morrissey you did it your way.

“Mum, thank you for giving me the strength to do this, I love you, I love you mom, and thank you for being so wonderful,” he added.
