11-year-old pens touching letter “I am Lily and I have autism”

Alison Bough

April is autism awareness month and tomorrow marks Irish Autism Action’s 4th Annual Blue Nose Day.

Blue Nose Day provides everyone with an opportunity to help raise awareness and understanding of autism, while also helping to raise funds for the charity.

This year, Irish Autism Action are encouraging schools, businesses and communities to have a ‘blue day’ by wearing all blue, walking a mile for autism or having a blueberry muffin morning and taking some #BlueNoseDay selfies.

11-year-old Lily has done her part to raise awareness by writing a letter about her own experiences as a person with autism to give to her class, teachers and parents.

Brian Murnane, CEO of Irish Autism Action, spoke to HerFamily and says that Lily’s letter captures the experience of many:

“Lily captures the belief of many people with Autism when she says she is the same, but just thinks differently. She speaks eloquently on behalf of those with autism who cannot speak for themselves.”
